BASF waterborne paints Jay Leno’s Eco-Jet Dream Car

BASF’s Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne Paints were one of the stars the evening before the SEMA show when Jay Leno unveiled his EcoJet dream car.

BASF’s Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne Basecoat was one of the stars of the show, October 30, 2006, at The Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas when Jay Leno unveiled his “EcoJet” dream car. This invitation only event was the evening before the well attended SEMA show.

Standing next to his glistening silver designer automobile, Leno shares his story. “I am hoping this will inspire young people to get into car design,” pointing to his new car as he continues, “I always wanted to build a car with the best American team possible.” Leno pulled together the best American team with General Motors Advanced Design Studio. The Corvette inspired frame of the Eco-Jet is hydroformed aluminum and the body is carbon fiber and Lexan Glass. The collaboration integrated Formula 1 and aircraft technology into the final design.

In showing his eco-friendly jet, Leno told the crowd, “I want to make an environmental statement with this car.” The 650 horsepower Honeywell LT-101 turbine engine, powered by bio diesel, and BASF’s Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne Basecoat are a testament to his team’s environmental responsibility.

The EcoJet’s carbon fiber body was finished completely with Glasurit environmentally friendly paint products. “The basecoat is Glasurit’s 9 Line Waterborne Technology,” notes Darlene Eilenberger, BASF Brand Manager, NAFTA, “using water based paints instead of solvent based dramatically reduces emissions during the application process.”

“BASF shares Leno’s commitment to the environment,” continues Eilenberger, “Glasurit’s 90 Line Waterborne color system, along with associated primers and clearcoat meet the most stringent regulations for emissions, offering proven environmentally friendly solutions for today’s collision repair industry.” BASF’s Glasurit 90 Line has been in the U.S. and Canadian market since 1993.
