Automotive refinish business bodyshop operations

The service offering Programmes for Success introduced by the R M automotive refinish brand of BASF Coatings has proven to be a particularly successful project.

The automotive refinish business is more than merely the sale of products. It is just as important that bodyshops are supported in their work and in increasing their turnover figures. The service offering "Programmes for Success" introduced by the R M automotive refinish brand of BASF Coatings has proven to be a particularly successful project. Within this scheme, a consultant was named for every country. This consultant was comprehensively trained in theory and practice over a period of three years in total. This thorough training was performed and accompanied by the "Process Consultancy" team in Clermont de l’Oise, the French site of BASF Coatings. The special service offering "Programmes for Success" consists of the following seven modules: Check-up, ShopMaster, TopScan, Design, Indic@tor, Express and Warranty.

Since 2005, new R-M employees have been completely dedicated to the international alignment of "Programmes for Success" on the basis of one consultant per country. Their consulting task comprises two areas: "80 percent of the time, the consultants train dealers and internal sales representatives in the ‘Programmes for Success’ offering, while the other 20 percent of the time is spent performing audits and working directly on site with the customer," explains Frederic Huon of the

"Process Consultancy R-M" team. The new R M Automotive Paints global consultant network has thus developed into an organization that helps the customer become even more successful through the exchange of information and direct on-site measures.

Specific training measures over three years

The specific training in the "Programmes for Success" module is designed to cover three years with two units a year.

In the first training unit, which just recently took place in Clermont de l’Oise, the role of the consultant and the TopScan module, an instrument for bodyshop analysis, were in the foreground. The next training unit, with a focus on the organization and management of a bodyshop, will take place in Maarssen, the Netherlands in November 2006.

The "Process Consultancy" team will guarantee this training in the long term. In addition to the theoretical part, practical training at pilot customers’ shops is also planned. For the continuous monitoring of the state of the consultants’ knowledge, this state is determined after every training unit. At the end of the three-year training, the consultants receive a certificate. The task of the "Process Consultancy" team consists of passing on knowledge to the consultants and supporting them in customer consulting. "Through pragmatic coaching, the consultants are quickly ready for work and receive intensive training," says Frederic Huon. He continues: "We have thus developed a new way to form the best team for the good of our customers."
