BASF Coatings Japan announces Motorcycle Color Trends

At the recent Motorcycle Color Show held at Roppongi Axis Gallery, BASF Coatings Japan presented its color trends forecast for the motorcycle industry.

BASF Coatings Japan Ltd. announced its forecast for the upcoming color trends in the motorcycle industry for the next two to three years at the Motorcycle Color Show held recently at Roppongi Axis Gallery on April 18 and 19.

The theme of this year's Color Show was “MATURECYCLE,” a term coined by combining “MATURE” and “MOTORCYCLE,” to signify a fully developed motorcycle society. The theme was inspired by automotive color trends, which reflects the sophisticated, adult culture arising from the aging baby-boomer generation. Based on this theme, BASF Coatings Japan introduced approximately 100 new colors to the market that will create a shift in the world of motorcycle coatings. In addition to meeting the existing demands for specific colors and color characteristics, including high color saturation, high luminance, and high flip-flop properties, BASF Coatings Japan introduced newly composed muted color hues. The company will also make developments and enhancements in its expression of colors by utilizing bright and metal like materials and textures for the future motorcycle designs.

The Shape of Future Motorcycles
The culture surrounding motorcycles in Japan is approaching a period of maturity, which means that a shift in motorcycle culture will take place. To meet the future environmental and safety standards, motorcycles must, as in the automotive industry, continuously improve electronic technologies and devices such as hybrid technology, fuel cells, ABS and airbags. In addition, in today’s society with diverse lifestyles, motorcycles are now perceived as a fashionable means of transportation, and we are seeing an emergence of a wide variety of motorcycle enthusiasts. As a result, a new generation of motorcycles is anticipated.
