Segway
HT's wheel lightweight, yet durable

BASF's Ultramid 8334G helps make the Segway HT's wheel lightweight,
yet durable, and helps reduce the noise emitted from the drive system.
Because the plastic wheel design is molded around a forged steel hub,
the need for fasteners that can loosen over time is minimized.
The self-balancing capability of the Segway HT is achieved through a
technology called "dynamic stabilization," which works like a natural
sense of balance through solid-state gyroscopes, tilt sensors, high-speed
microprocessors and powerful electric motors. Working in concert, these
systems sense the rider's center of gravity, instantaneously assess
the information and make minute adjustments one hundred times a second.
When the rider leans forward or backward, the Segway HT moves in those
directions. Instead of using brakes to stop, the rider simply straightens
up. Turning is achieved by rotating the steering grip under the rider's
wrist in either direction.
"The Segway HT is an exciting new product that may well change the way
people get around," said Ray Keevins, Territory Development Manager
for BASF's Engineering Plastics business in North America. "We're very
proud to be helping make such an innovative product better."
