News Archives - T-Lite microfine titanium dioxide
UV light sunscreen filter provides superior transparency and elegance
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., March 18, 2005 - Jobwerx News -
BASF has introduced T-Lite microfine titanium dioxide, a transparent
ultraviolet (UV) light filter manufactured by Sakai Chemical Industry
Company of Japan. BASF will market the T-Lite ingredients to cosmetic
and sunscreen manufacturers globally, under an agreement with Sakai,
a leader in advanced nanotechnology and powder modification.
T-Lite microfine titanium dioxide provides superior transparency and
elegance and is highly compatible and stable in various oils. Titanium
dioxide is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S.F.D.A.)
as a Category 1 sunscreen filter that offers broad spectrum UV-A and
UV-B protection in a single ingredient.
Because T-Lite delivers superior transparency compared to ingredients
already on the market, it will help sunscreen manufacturers in developing
new formulations with high sun protection factors.
Less than a year ago BASF introduced Uvinul® A Plus, a photostable,
organic UV-A absorber used in sun care products. These sunscreen product
protection ingredients are sold for use in Mexico, Europe, and in the
United States. BASF is a leader in organic and inorganic UV-A and UV-B
filters, with a product portfolio that allows the creation of just about
any desired formulation of sunscreen agents for a wide array of applications,
including lotions and moisturizers, including products for children.
BASF's cosmetic ingredients deliver a range of benefits to support healthy-looking
skin and hair. BASF's portfolio of cosmetic ingredients includes UV
filters, active ingredients and cosmetic polymers that are used in the
production of high-value consumer products such as sunscreen products,
skin care creams and lotions and hair care products. In addition to
cosmetic ingredients, BASF offers a comprehensive range of aroma chemicals
that are used by the flavor and fragrance industry, among others, in
the manufacture of fragrance compounds for cosmetics, detergents and
household cleaning products.
