GPS rail software offers plastics shippers better control Railcar tracking software offers shippers of plastics and petrochemicals logistics for management evaluation, enhanced decision-making and regulatory compliance.
RFTrax, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fairfield Industries, announces that its Asset Management Platform* (AMP) for wireless GPS monitoring of rail cars has been certified by Bourque Data Systems (BDS), a leader in rail logistics software, for use with Bourque’s RAILTRAC* system. The integration of the two solutions offers shippers of petrochemicals and plastics the ability to enhance decision-making, asset management, and regulatory compliance with regular data feeds and alerts on the location and status of tank cars. The RFTrax AMP, currently installed on over 1,000 rail assets, offers enhanced asset-tracking performance at an affordable cost. A solar-powered rechargeable battery allows frequent reporting over years of use; the system can transmit large data payloads of up to 0.5 MB; digital cellular transmission provides reliable, North America-wide coverage; and there is full two-way communication between both RFTrax’s Asset Command Unit (ACU) mounted on the rail car and the back-end software. Further, the Asset Command Unit* (ACU) has been certified to safety standard UL 913 and is rated intrinsically safe for use in Class 1, Division 1 hazardous locations. “We are pleased to work with RFTrax for the benefit of customers who will gain improved visibility into the location and safety of their hazardous and non-hazardous shipments,” said Steve Bourque, president of BDS. “With this joint solution, our clients now have a seamless way to integrate real-time railcar tracking data into their day-to-day RAILTRAC reporting structure.” The RFTrax system is capable of reporting as often as every 10 minutes to meet the most stringent interpretation of upcoming government requirements covering hazardous materials and toxic inhalants in high-threat urban areas. Customers can check the status of their tank cars at any time using the user-friendly, secure RFTrax Web portal, which is linked to Google Maps* and the RFTrax back-end database. “Our alliance with BDS will make it easier for shippers to achieve
key business objectives, including optimized inventory management, cost
reduction, and improved safety and compliance,” said John Felty,
national sales manager, RFTrax. “This joint solution offers the
most powerful yet economical approach to railcar monitoring and management.” * Asset Management Platform and Asset Command Unit are trademarks of
