2006-10-12 News Release
Plastics pails and metal can manufacturing plants to close A supplier of high quality metal and plastics packaging products will close two manufacturing facilities in North America by year end.
As part of the realignment of the company's Metal Food & Household Products, Americas, segment following the acquisition earlier this year of U.S. Can Corp., Ball Corporation will close two manufacturing facilities in North America. Ball will close a leased facility in Alliance, Ohio, which was one of
10 manufacturing locations in the U.S. acquired from U.S. Can. The plant
manufactures plastics pails, primarily for paints and chemicals. Equipment
in the facility will be relocated to other Ball plants in Ohio and Georgia. The closure of the Alliance plant will be treated as an opening balance sheet item related to the U.S. Can acquisition. Ball will record a fourth quarter after-tax charge of approximately $25 million related to equipment disposal and the Burlington closure. The employees at the plastics and metals facilities being closed will
be paid severance and offered transition services. The Alliance plant
has approximately 40 employees and the Burlington plant has approximately
300 employees.
