Packaging provider Crown honored with Latincan Awards

Crown Holdings a leading supplier of packaging products to consumer marketing companies, through its subsidiary CROWN Envases Mexico, wins Supreme Canmaker Award.

CROWN Envases Mexico, S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has won the Supreme Canmaker Award in the Latincan Award contest. The company also received top honors for the second consecutive year in the Two-Piece Decorative category, this year for the vibrant package designed for 7-UP ICE, a seasonal brand for GEUSA – Grupo de Embotelladoras Unidas, S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of the Pepsi-Cola company. The awards were given out during the Latincan conference, held in May 2006 in Puerto Rico.

The Supreme Canmaker Award was awarded to Crown’s plant in Guadalajara, Mexico, recognizing it as the best Latin American production facility among all of this year’s participants. Located in one of the largest industrial complexes of El Salto Jalisco, known as the “Mexican Silicon Valley,” the plant specializes in the production of 2-piece aluminum cans for soft drinks, beer, juices and nectars. Last year’s Supreme Canmaker Award was taken home by Crown’s Mexico City plant, CROWN Envases México, Planta La Villa, which specializes in 3-piece food cans and aerosol packaging.

Crown was also recognized this year for the striking package created for 7-UP ICE, a product marketed only in the summer months. With a special motto of “Intensamente Refrescante” (Intensely Refreshing), the container’s graphics reflect the freshness and coolness of the beverage. The package also features a mascot, Fido Dido, to increase appeal to the brand’s target demographic of 15- to 24-year-olds.

Sponsored by CanTech International magazine, the Latincan Awards recognize the innovation taking place in the Latin American market. Held in conjunction with the annual Latincan conference, the program is open to all canmakers based in Latin America. Products submitted for consideration must be manufactured or used by companies in the region.
