Crown's new beverage packaging faciltiy opens

Leading supplier of packaging products celebrates the opening of Crown Maghreb Can beverage packaging facility in Tunisia.

CROWN Bevcan Europe & Middle East, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CCK) (Crown), Philadelphia, PA., recently celebrated the opening of its new CROWN Maghreb Can facility in Tunis, Tunisia with a special ceremony. Formally inaugurated by M. Afif Chelbi, the Tunisian Minister of Industry, Energy and Small Business, the 15,000 square meter plant produces 33cl and slim 24 and 25cl aluminum beverage cans at an annual capacity of 635 million for the growing North African market.

The highlight of the ceremony was a speech by Minister Chelbi, who presented Aidan Sanderson, General Manager of CROWN Maghreb Can, with an honorary plaque to recognize the facility’s official opening. The event also included remarks from John Conway, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Crown Holdings, Inc., and Saud Algosaibi, Managing Director of Ahmad Hamad Algosaibi & Bros. The two companies each hold a 50 percent share in the CROWN Maghreb Can facility.

The ceremony was attended by regional beverage company executives, local government representatives and dignitaries and national media.

“The new Tunisia facility serves as a symbol of Crown’s commitment to the future economic vitality of this important region,” comments Conway. “Packaging suppliers play an integral role in the growth and long-term success of consumer products companies in emerging markets. We are pleased to be able to help North African beverage producers build their brands with locally produced cans.”

With a workforce of 88 employees, CROWN Maghreb Can supplies a number of North African beverage producers, particularly in the area of soft drinks, fruit juices and nectars. The addition of this plant increases the total number of production facilities operated by Crown Holdings, Inc. and its subsidiaries to 151 across 42 countries.
