Hourglass shaped can takes packaging design award

Uniquely shaped package for a leading canned food brand wins the 2006 UK packaging design award in the metal packaging category.

The 2006 UK Packaging Award in the Metal Packaging Category for the distinctive Waistline* low-calorie foods can goes to CROWN Food Europe, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, Inc. (Crown), Philadelphia, PA. The hourglass shaped can, specially developed for Crosse & Blackwell, one of Premier Foods’ leading canned food brands, also received a highly commended rating in the Technical Innovation Category. Crown and other recipients were honored at an awards ceremony held on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The uniquely shaped package visually reinforces the healthy living theme of the Waistline brand, which was launched to meet demand from consumers for more nutritious meal options. The three-piece cans include an EOLE III** steel easy-open end for greater convenience and decorative shrink sleeving for outstanding shelf appearance.

In addition to providing significant point-of-purchase appeal, the package has been designed to run on existing machinery without changing filling, seaming or retort processes.

Organized by Packaging News magazine, the awards bring together the diverse businesses involved in the production of packaging – from designers and marketers to material suppliers, converters, processors, fillers and machinery manufacturers – to celebrate outstanding achievement. Entries were judged by a panel of buyers and specifiers from various consumer product goods companies throughout the United Kingdom.
