Celestica Wins Shingo
Business Prize
News Archives - Celestica Inc., a leading electronics
manufacturing services provider, has won the 2005 Shingo Business Prize
for achievements in lean manufacturing.
Monterrey, Mexico - March 3, 2005 - Jobwerx News - The
Toronto-based company is the first EMS provider to receive top honors,
which in the past has been awarded to leading automotive and aerospace
manufacturers. The prestigious Shingo prize was awarded for outstanding
achievements in lean manufacturing at the 292,000-sq. ft. facility located
in Monterrey, MX.
Celestica is a world leader in the delivery of innovative electronics
manufacturing services (EMS). Celestica operates a highly sophisticated
global manufacturing network with operations in Asia, Europe and the
Americas, providing a broad range of integrated services to leading
original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across a variety of industries.
Companies must meet stringent criteria to win the Shingo Prize, achieve
dramatic performance improvements in lead-time reduction and process
improvements, and pass a site audit by a team of lean manufacturing
experts appointed by the committee.
Celestica completed factory floor improvements that eliminated 33 percent
of its surface-mount equipment. Manufacturing procedures were then simplified
to support a lean inventory model that ordered only as many parts as
would be used for that day.
The Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing was established in
1988 to promote awareness of Lean manufacturing concepts and recognize
companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico that achieve world-class
manufacturing status. The Shingo Prize philosophy is that world-class
business performance may be achieved through focused improvements in
core manufacturing and business processes.
Celestica's expertise in quality, technology and supply chain management,
and leadership in the global deployment of Lean principles, enables
the company to provide competitive advantage to its customers by improving
time-to-market, scalability and manufacturing efficiency.
The company claims that it is applying the same lean principles at several
facilities throughout the world. The results, in many cases, are lead-time
reductions of up to 70 percent, quality yield improvements of 40 percent,
and space reductions of up to 60 percent, and enhancements that ultimately
benefit customers' bottom lines.
Celestica will be presented with the Prestigious Shingo Prize for Lean
Manufacturing Excellence at the 17th Annual Shingo Prize Conference
held from April 18-22, 2005, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
