2007-06-20 News Release
Ciba to present plastics innovations at K 2007 Ciba Specialty Chemicals to exhibit a variety of plastics solutions and innovations at K 2007 Dusseldorf in October.
With the overall theme “Your business – our effects”, Ciba* is to show a host of new solutions for the plastics industry at K 2007 in Düsseldorf from October 24-31, at stand No. A27 in Hall 06. New effects to be exhibited are designed to enhance aspects such as “Color & Appeal”, “Durability & Protection”, and “Functionality & Performance” as well as “Processing Efficiency”. Ciba will also be presenting an extended array of services and technical support options. Product Safety & Registration experts will be available throughout the Fair to inform and advise customers on topics such as REACH and food compliance. “Our customers require high-quality products, efficient processes and comprehensive technical and regulatory support in order to meet end-user demand, stand out in the market and grow their businesses,” said Giordano Righini, Global Head of Ciba’s Plastics Additives Segment. “Our innovation for the plastics industry is driven by market demands and consumer trends. Visitors to the Ciba stand at K 2007 will discover the effects that enable our customers to deliver the increasingly sophisticated products consumers want.”
Highlights amongst the products designed to add “Color & Appeal” to plastics are two new ranges of Ciba XYMARA** effect pigments, which will be officially launched at the K. One range gives exceptionally brilliant, sparkling effects suitable for packaging, household and leisure goods made of PVC, engineering plastics and polyolefins. The second range is especially suitable for demanding end uses, for instance where high resistance to discoloration is required. The wide variety of effects attainable on plastic with Ciba XYMARA pigments include pearlescent, satin and metal. Another highlight at K 2007 will be the new-generation diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole pigment Ciba CROMOPHTAL* DPP Red TFP. With its high transparency, brilliance and color strength, this “hot” new red is particularly recommended for polyolefin packaging and PVC applications. CROMOPHTAL DPP Red TFP can be combined with effect pigments for colorful glitter and gleam or with a special clarifier from Ciba for attractive transparent shades. In the “Durability & Protection” section, additives to be launched at K 2007 include a new light stabilizer for thermoplastic polyurethanes, a new antioxidant for ABS and a new high-performance stabilizer for polyolefins. Another new antioxidant,
Ciba IRGATEC* NC 66, allows the benefits of polyolefin nanocomposites to be fully exploited because it improves processing stability, enables hotter and faster processing, reduces yellowing during ageing, enhances long-term thermal and light stability, and reduces odor during processing. New additions to the range of fully organic, heavy-metal-free pigments that perform reliably in outdoor non-warping applications are Ciba MICROLEN* Yellow 3RLW-PG, Ciba MICROLEN* Blue GBLW-PG and Ciba MICROLEN* Green GFLW-PG. Outstanding heat resistance and fastness properties are some of the advantages of Ciba CROMOPHTAL* Yellow 4GV, a versatile new non-warping green-shade yellow pigment based on a new, patented pigment chemistry. In the “Functionality & Performance” group, highlights to be featured at the K include Ciba IRGACLEAR* XT 386, a clarifier for polypropylene that offers outstanding “see-through” clarity at low concentration, and shows organoleptic excellence, resulting from high thermal and chemical stability, as well as high extraction resistance. A further highlight is Ciba IRGASURF* SR 100, which boosts scratch resistance of automotive polypropylene/thermoplastic polyolefin compounds, helping to meet the most demanding new OEM requirements and enabling broader use of these plastics compounds in automotive interior applications.
Specific product forms of Ciba’s additives range are known to improve “Processing Efficiency”. Process efficiency can be further improved and yield increased with dust-free, pre-dispersed pigments, such as Ciba MICROLEN* MP, allowing new standards of consistency and reliability in pigment coloration for plastics. Ciba XYMARA MC mono-concentrate effect pigments for polyolefins combine the advantages of dust-free processing with a range of shimmering pearlescent effects. Ciba MICRANYL* and Ciba MICROLITH* for PVC and Ciba FILOFIN* for polypropylene fibers complete Ciba’s selection of predispersed pigments. In addition to new products and efficient processes, Ciba has extended the choice of services and technical support it offers customers. Its recently introduced Plastics Techline service, which provides information on products and applications, is one example of the Company’s commitment to providing practical solutions that add value for customers. Ciba will be showing how it helps customers meet the many, increasingly stringent regulations, providing advice on Environment, Health & Safety and other regulatory matters, including FDA-listing and REACH, helping to ensure regulatory compliance during manufacture, handling and use, and to enhance consumer safety. * Ciba, IRGACLEAR, IRGASURF, CROMOPHTAL, IRGATEC, MICROLEN, CROMOPHTAL,
