Breakthrough in PET Plastics Bottles for Oxygen Sensitive Products

Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx News)--Leading packaging producer of plastics containers announces breakthrough that minimizes the permeation of oxygen through PET bottles.

With the conversion of glass and metal to plastics packaging, oxygen is of great concern.

Making that conversion to plastics containers from glass or metal should prove to be more effective for the food, beverage and water industries. Especially with this breakthrough development of a clear monolayer PET material with an oxygen-scavenging barrier from Constar.

Constar will present an update on the development of DiamondClearT oxygen scavenging technology at the PET Strategies Conference scheduled for November 29- December 1, 2005, hosted by Packaging Strategies.

DiamondClearT is an excellent oxygen scavenging material that is blended in a monolayer PET bottle. As the DiamondClearT material is blended at the preform injection stage, the technology works equally well with one-step and two-step injection stretch blow molding operations, eliminating the need for high cost co-injection equipment necessary for multi-layer barrier systems. And, unlike systems to apply internal or external barrier coatings, DiamondClearT preforms can be produced centrally and economically shipped to any blowing location. Constar believes that "barrier in the preform" solutions provide scalability and flexibility that broadens the potential of this new technology. Unlike currently available monolayer scavenger systems, T produces a bottle with clarity equal to plain PET and with higher gloss.
