RAG subsidiary, Degussa specialty chemicals group to present innovative products and system solutions at the AchemAsia trade show.

Degussa is going to show innovations for future-oriented markets, and employer branding sessions AchemAsia 2007 in Beijing, China, between May 14 and 18. Some exemplary products and system solutions testify to the company's innovative strengths:

. novel components for special hard-wearing car tires,
. flexible ceramic wallcoverings off the roll,
. renewable raw materials - the chemical building blocks of the future,
. separators for safe high-performance lithium-ion batteries in cars with hybrid drives.

Also on display at Degussa's stand will be more than 30 end products in which the Group's specialty chemicals - the "essentials" of the slogan - are indispensable components, ranging from the Adidas sport shoes, in which VESTAMID* ensures good durability of the sole, and cosmetics for which Degussa supplies ceramides, to mobile phones whose displays are produced from a high-purity PLEXIGLAS® molding compound.

But Degussa will be presenting more than innovative products and system solutions at the trade show; it will also organize events and presentations at its stand to introduce to visitors the people who have worked on these innovations. Three sessions on employer branding will be held on 14 May (on 15:00 - 15:45pm) and 15 May (11:00 - 11:45am and 15:00 - 15:45pm).

With new, record-breaking figures of 505 exhibitors from 27 different countries, 8,800 sqm of net exhibition area over five halls and a top-level international congress the 7th AchemAsia from 14 to 18 May 2007 in Beijing/PR China promises to break all previous records. The international character of AchemAsia - International Exhibition Congress on Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology - tops all comparable events in Asia and has made it the leading event for the process industries in China and the Asian region. Over 20,000 visitors are expected to attend.

Degussa in China
Degussa has been producing specialty chemical products in China since the early nineties, with wide-ranging trading relations already in place prior to this. The Degussa Group meanwhile owns more than 20 companies in the country, with production sites in Anqiu, Changchun, Dalian, Jining, Liaoyang, Nanning, Nanping, Qingdao, Rizhao, Shanghai and Yingkou.

Our broad product portfolio, which comprises precipitated silica, carbon blacks, rubber silanes, amino acids, polyurethane foam additives, coating polyesters, pigment pastes, color tinting systems, high-performance plastics and initiators for plastics manufacture, caters for customers in China and throughout the whole of Asia. In fiscal year 2006, 4,000 employees generated sales of 460 million euros, which is an increase of 60 percent from 288 million euros in 2005. Degussa regards China as one of the driving forces of the global economy, and we consequently intend to increase our business in this attractive growth region to around 800 million euros within three years.

At the end of 2002 we founded Degussa (China) Co., Ltd. in Beijing as a parent company of our Group, and the aim in future is to assign all the Degussa companies in the region to it. This parent company provides an expert service platform to support our business units, with the emphasis on implementing new investment projects and stepping up customer relationships.

For a specialty chemicals company such as Degussa, linking innovation and market proximity is a crucial factor behind our business success. Degussa therefore opened a research & development center in Shanghai in 2004, which will be expanded by mid-2007. The investment sum totals more than 20 million euros. The center provides the opportunity to develop specific products locally and to introduce them to potential customers. This approach enables our business units to cater much more effectively for the requirements of the Chinese market.

In June 2006 Degussa brought the first production facilities into operation at its multi-user site (MUSC) at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, with a polyester and a colorants plant. MUSC is a site where Degussa locates and establishes new operations of several business units. Earlier this year, the company has received approval from the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to construct an integrated production facility for methyl methacrylate (MMA) and methacrylic specialties at its MUSC. The investment volume for the entire plant including all preliminary stages is approx. 250 million euros, which makes it the second largest single item investment of the company worldwide. The world-scale plant is to go into operation in the course of 2009, after a construction period of two years, with an annual capacity of some 100,000 metric tons and to supply raw materials for downstream monomer and polymer specialties for applications in optoelectronics, the adhesives and coatings industries and automotive construction.

Our ambitious growth targets for China call for a broad range of qualified employees. With this objective in mind we are cooperating with the Shanghai Petrochemical Academy. To strengthen the development of young management talents, we also support the China Europe International Business School.
