Emerging Automotive Applications
Manufacturing News Center
Troy, Mich., -- June 14, 2004 -- DuPont to feature emerging automotive
applications at the Automotive Elastomers Conference.
New TFLEX™ fuel vent tubing from Teleflex Fluid Systems relies on DuPont™
ETPV engineering thermoplastic vulcanizate to provide a strong, flexible
structure that can be easily formed into complex shapes. DuPont Engineering
Polymers will feature the tubing and other emerging automotive applications
for ETPV at the Automotive
Elastomers Conference, June 15-16 in Dearborn, Mich.
The tubing complies with P-ZEV (partial zero-emissions vehicle) requirements,
according to Teleflex. It is a three-layer coextruded construction also
containing a barrier polymer to block permeation and a conductive resin
to help dissipate static charges.
The first commercial application for the new tubing will hit the market
this fall in a 2005 model car. The part involved is complex three-dimensional
tube for conveying fuel vapor captured at the car's filler neck to an
emission canister.
"Our TFLEX™ tubing both minimizes permeation losses and reduces costs
compared with conventional rubber tubing," said Rich Hahn, project engineer
at Teleflex. The tubing complies with strict new evaporative emission
standards pending implementation by California, other states and the
Federal Environmental Protection Agency, according to Teleflex.
