Domestic appliances that can dry and iron

The domestic appliances market has a new innovative solution whereby once washed, garments can be placed into a unit to be dried and ironed all in one process.

Recently Fagor Electrodomesticos (Fagor) presented the Driron, an addition to the domestic appliances sector that can dry and iron any type of garment. This venture by Fagor has involved more than 3 years of research and development, at a cost of 6 million euros.

The Driron is the only product on the market to offer a complete solution to looking after clothes at home. Once washed, clothes can be put into the Driron to be dried and ironed. It can also iron dry clothes, dry damp clothes and even air garments to eliminate unpleasant smells.

To work, the Driron generates steam and hot air at moderate temperatures, treating the fabrics gently and thereby helping them to last longer. Garments put inside the machine do not rub against each other, so there is no build-up of fluff on them. The appliance can be used with any type of natural or synthetic fabrics, or mixes.

Its ironing function offers a good finish for 85% of the clothes used at home, considerably reducing the time spent on doing the ironing.

According to Belén Kortabarria, the Chief Executive of Fagor Electrodomesticos, "The Driron is a worldwide innovation created by Fagor, which will bring a lot of value to our company in the future and, above all, to consumers all over the world. This is the first time that a domestic appliance has offered an effective and satisfactory solution for ironing any type of clothes, away from the traditional method".

Fagor will manufacture 10,000 units in 2007 to meet the demand in Spain, although the company expects to quadruple that figure in 2008. After its launch in Spain, Fagor will progressively introduce the product in other European countries.
