Fluor selected for Chinese Polysilicon Plant construction

LDK Solar, Xinyu City, China, has selected Fluor Corporation for engineering design and services to build a polysilicon production plant.

Fluor Corporation (Fluor*) announces that it was awarded a contract to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) and engineering, procurement and construction-management (EPCM) services for a polysilicon plant for LDK Solar Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LDK) in Xinyu City, People's Republic of China.

The total contract is in excess of $1 billion, with FEED work booked in third quarter 2007 and EPCM to be booked in 2008 upon full release. Fluor offices in Greenville, S.C., and Shanghai will execute the work.

"We're honored that LDK Solar selected Fluor for this major project. Fluor maintains a strong presence in the polysilicon market, and this project is important to our continued strength in the industry, as well as our growing operations in China," said David Seaton, president of Fluor's Energy & Chemicals Group.

"With this new facility, LDK Solar will be able to meet the world's growing demand for polysilicon. Fluor's extensive knowledge of the polysilicon market as well as their track record of successfully designing and constructing world class facilities in China made it the ideal contractor for this project," said Xiaofeng Peng, chairman and chief executive officer of LDK Solar.

Site preparation has begun for the polysilicon production plant that will be located adjacent to LDK Solar's existing solar wafer manufacturing facilities in Xinyu City. LDK Solar has announced plans to complete construction and reach production capacity of up to 6,000 metric tons of polysilicon by the end of 2008 and 15,000 metric tons by the end of 2009.

LDK Solar Co., Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of multicrystalline solar wafers, which are the principal raw material used to produce solar cells. LDK Solar sells multicrystalline wafers globally to manufacturers of photovoltaic products, including solar cells and solar modules. In addition, the company provides wafer-processing services to monocrystalline and multicrystalline solar cell and module manufacturers.

Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) provides services on a global basis in the fields of engineering, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance and project management. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Fluor is a FORTUNE 500 company with revenues of $14.1 billion in 2006.
