Adhesives Boost Productivity
in Plastics Assembly Too
New GE adhesives provide very aggressive adhesion to many different substrates,
including plastics, resins, various types of steel and aluminum, fiberglass,
and Formica.
Thanks to exceptionally fast cure times, as little as nine minutes to
tack-free and primerless adhesion to a variety of substrates, GE - Advanced
Materials, Silicones introduces new RTV200 Series two-component adhesives
offering rapid curing times and primerless adhesion with higher productivity
in automated industrial assembly.
By accelerating cure rates and eliminating the need for a primer, GE's
RTV200 adhesives can enable higher throughput vs. one-component systems.
In comparison to addition-cure systems that require heating, room temperature
curing offered by the new GE adhesives saves energy costs. Further, manufacturers
can finely adjust cure speeds by choosing one of three B components and
varying the A:B ratio of materials. Find
information about GE adhesives.
“GE has created this new family of condensation-cure adhesives to expand
our offering and give industrial assemblers even more choices,” said Robert
Benson, RTV marketing manager, GE - Advanced Materials, Silicones. “These
adhesives can provide significant productivity gains and cheaper assembly
than double-sided tape in terms of faster cycle times that drive higher
throughput. Plus, they offer tremendous versatility in substrate choice.
We believe our RTV200 series has the potential to translate into measurable
bottom-line benefits for customers.”

The flexible new system comprises the RTV210A component and any of the
following B components, which can be selected based on desired speed and
color:
- RTV213B for fast cure of <30 minutes tack-free time and black color
- RTV210B for fast cure of <30 minutes tack-free time and gray color
- RTV223B for very fast cure of <9 minutes tack-free time and dark gray
color
The new GE adhesives provide very aggressive adhesion to many different
substrates, including plastics such as GE's Lexan*, Noryl*, and Cycoloy*
resins, various types of steel and aluminum, fiberglass, and Formica*.
Lap shear testing with these substrates resulted in 100-percent cohesive
failure with an average over 80 psi force. Applications for the RTV200
adhesives range from automotive component assembly to the manufacture
of sporting goods.
RTV210A can be stored at room temperature for one year; the B components
can be stored for six months at 0 F/-18 C or for two months at 32 F/0
C.
