GE Ceramics new spray coatings grade of boron nitride for lubrication and adhesion New BN spray coatings from GE Ceramics act as a release agent and lubricant for a wide range of applications, including metalforming, glassmaking, rubber, plastics molding, high-temperature sintering, and welding and brazing.
The Ceramics division from GE Advanced Materials has introduced a new grade of its boron nitride (BN) spray coating that eliminates the use of methylene chloride. GE’s Boron Nitride (BN) Spray II is an excellent candidate for use as a release agent and lubricant in a wide range of applications, including metalforming, glassmaking, plastics molding, high-temperature sintering, and welding and brazing. The new spray coating contains a high-purity, high-crystalline grade of BN that imparts superior lubrication properties. For easier application, it is offered in an aerosol package. “In developing new products, GE is guided by our ecomagination* initiative that supports environmental, health, and safety goals,” said Don Lelonis, application development specialist, GE Advanced Materials, Ceramics. “As part of that effort, we have eliminated the use of methylene chloride, a chemical that has been subject to tighter controls from regulatory agencies. These controls have made it difficult for customers to use products containing methylene chloride, and still remain in compliance with health and environmental standards. Our new BN spray coating provides excellent performance while giving customers a product that is also ecologically responsible – and that is the essence of GE’s ecomagination.” GE’s Boron Nitride II spray coating offers the following benefits: Boron nitride coatings are used as release agents and lubricants to prevent materials such as molten metal, plastics, rubber, and metallic and ceramic materials from sticking to or reacting with dies, molds, and other surfaces. With high heat resistance, they prevent wetting by molten metals such as aluminum and magnesium. These coatings also improve the surface finish of end products and shorten cycle times by speeding mold/die release. The Advanced Materials business of General
