GE Plastics breakthrough in themoplastic resins technology

GE Plastics webcast, virtual press conference, regarding news about capacity expansion and a new amorphous polymer technology for high performace thermoplastic resins.

On Tuesday, November 14, at 10:00 a.m. EDT, GE Plastics will host a Webcast to announce two major company milestones. The first is the launch of Extem* thermoplastic polyimide (TPI) resin, a totally new amorphous polymer technology that offers new levels of performance in the most demanding end-use environments. The second is a major expansion of the GE’s Ultem* polyetherimide (PEI) resin family at both its Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Cartagena, Spain, manufacturing facilities.

GE Webcast presenters will include, Brian Herington, General Manager, High Performance Polymers, and Robert (Rob) Costella, Global Product Manager, High Performance Polymers.

The Webcast will Cover…
. The history behind the development of Extem resin, the first truly new polymer in almost two decades.
. Extem resin’s ability to provide superior performance, while eliminating the drawbacks of semi-crystalline materials, imidized thermosets, and competitive amorphous thermoplastics.
. How this new resin family delivers a powerful combination of melt processability and ultra-high thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties to meet industry demand for easy-to-produce parts that withstand ever-higher temperatures and harsh chemical environments, and yet remain stiff and dimensionally stable.
. Extem resin’s inherent flame-retardant properties without the use of halogenated additives that can pose environmental risks, underscoring GE’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

And…
. GE Plastics’ $250 million expansion of its Cartagena, Spain facility, which, when it opens in 2008, will add 30% more Ultem resin capacity worldwide.
. The company’s $30 million investment in new equipment and technology at Mt. Vernon, to boost U.S. Ultem and Siltem resin production by 12% and cut manufacturing lead times to one week.
. How GE’s Cartagena and Mt. Vernon plants will be equipped to manufacture the newest in cutting-edge Ultem resin grades and advanced new polymer technologies.
