GE Bayer Silicones new liguid silicone rubber for automotive parts New liquid silicone rubber launced by joint venture GE Bayer Silicones delivers sustained high-temperature performance in automotive applications.
GE Bayer Silicones, a joint venture of GE’s Advanced Materials
business, today announced the launch of a new grade of liquid silicone
rubber (LSR) that offers improved high-temperature performance for automotive
applications. LSR 2670 high temperature grade delivers excellent performance
in components that experience continuous high temperatures of up to 190
C. The new GE material Silopren was engineered to help address the increasing
exposure of automotive parts, particularly gaskets, to higher temperatures
under the hood. This trend is the result of efforts to lower fuel consumption
and also form better insulation of the engine compartment to reduce the
noise emission. Heinz Mueller, global automotive marketing manager for the elastomers product line of GE - Silicones, said, "Gaskets made from this new LSR material are already in use at leading European car producers in applications where the silicone gasket needs an excellent high-temperature performance and also good oil resistance. This product is an important addition to our LSR product portfolio, which we are continuously extending to meet the automotive requirements of the future." GE’s LSR 2670 high temp two-component liquid silicone rubber contains the necessary additives and is a ready to use two-component system. LSR has outstanding mold-filling characteristics, making it possible to mold complex parts like charge-air cooler gaskets with just one injection point. At the same time, it provides very fast cure times for high throughput in a mass production environment. GE’s LSR grades are used to produce high-performance molded articles for various industries and applications. Examples are seals and connectors for the automotive industry, baby bottle nipples and pacifiers for the infant care industry, components and seals for healthcare, and insulators and cable accessories for high voltage applications in the electrical industry.
