New Packaging From GPI Turns Hot Dogs Into Fast Franks

Oscar Mayer Fast Franks are a summertime favorite that can now be enjoyed any time of the year thanks to a microwavable paperboard tray from Graphic Packaging International.

The great taste and convenience of hot dogs in a bun come together with Oscar Mayer Fast Franks. Each individually wrapped Oscar Mayer Fast Frank tastes great thanks to a specially designed microwavable paper tray, from Graphic Packaging International, that heats the bun just right -- so it's soft and warm right out of the microwave. Preparation is easy, and there’s no cook top mess or boiling water! The hot dog is simply unwrapped, placed in the bun on a specially designed microwaveable tray and heated for a quick 35 seconds, making a delicious all-in-one hot after-school snack for kids, a fun dinner item or part of a quick and yummy lunch for the whole family.

Called "Oscar Mayer Fast Franks," these hot dogs come individually-wrapped in a specially-designed microwavable paperboard tray that uses Graphic Packaging's award-winning QuiltWave* active microwave packaging to heat the bun so it's soft and warm, while at the same time fully warming the hot dog.

The exceptional performance is due to unique laminated quilts, or pockets, of the QuiltWave active microwave packaging that expands when exposed to microwave power and provides a closer contact with the food item. This hot surface directly next to the food drives away moisture and heats up the bun just right for a tasty, hot and juicy Oscar Mayer hot dog.

Graphic Packaging's QuiltWave active microwave packaging is so revolutionary that in 2005 it was named the year's "Best in Class" new product in the food category by the Association of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL).

Launched in June, Oscar Mayer Fast Franks are available in two stock keeping units (SKU's) -- meat wieners and beef franks -- and can be found in the refrigerated products section of major grocery stores nationwide. Packages containing three hot dogs in buns sell for a retail price of about $2.79 to $2.99, with an 8-count club package scheduled for introduction later this year.
