Quality High Performance Air Filters

WILMINGTON, Del. -- May 7 -- Are you plagued by the many different irritants during Alergy season? Using a high performance air filter is one of many things homeowners can do to control air-borne allergens.

According to DuPont, not all of these irritating airborne allergen particles are from outdoors. Pests such as, dust mites, pollen, pet dander and mold spores can be found in the air indoors, where people spend 60% to 90% of their time and where air quality can be five to 10 times worse than outdoor air quality.

DuPont has introduced a new line of air filters for home heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, which can help improve a home's indoor air quality by reducing air-borne allergens for cleaner, safer and healthier air.

According to Dupont, a recent survey* released by the KRC Research Group, points out that allergens are the top indoor air quality concern for nearly half (46%) of U.S. female homeowners. However, the survey respondents are not choosing the most effective methods to combat allergens. Air fresheners are their first choice (22%), followed by scented candles or incense (21%), with their HVAC filters trailing in third place (12%). Of those three, only air filters can remove allergens from the air. Besides causing health problems such as runny noses, watery eyes and sneezing in sensitive individuals, allergens can also cause odors and damage household materials.

DuPont Indoor Air Quality Research Scientist Colleen Merritt, PhD. notes that, "for every visible particle of dust and dirt trapped in your furnace filter, there may be hundreds more that you cannot see, including bacteria, fungi, and pollen," "with inadequate filtration, these tiny particles can seep through your HVAC system and back into your air.

Dr. Merritt further states that, "through independent lab testing, DuPont air filters have been proven to trap a greater percentage of airborne allergen particles such as dust, pet dander, pollen, mold spores, and even bacteria than conventional fiberglass filters," she continues. "They are the latest example of how DuPont applies science to improve human performance, comfort and safety."
