2006-11-16 News Release
Foursome partner for automotive door panel Chrysler, Lear, Kraiburg and Husky Injection Molding Systems partner for an award winning, two material automotive door panel for the 2007 Dodge Caliber.
A two-material door panel for the 2007 Dodge Caliber that won top honors
in the Process/Assembly/Enabling Technologies category at the recent Society
of Plastics Engineers Automotive Innovation Awards, was produced by Husky
Injection Molding Systems, in partnership with Chrysler, Lear and Kraiburg.
The Caliber door panel is being produced on a 1,820 ton (16,500 kN) Husky Quadloc two-material rotary machine. The part features a substrate with soft-touch overmolding. The award is the second SPE Automotive Innovation Award for Husky in the past three years. Husky also was part of the group that won in the Process/Assembly/Enabling Technologies category in 2004 for a two-shot instrument panel for the 2005 Ford Mustang. Husky has a full range of injection molding technologies that have helped automotive manufacturers reduce floorspace requirements, improve part quality, eliminate the need for secondary operations and increase productivity. Systems such as In-Line Compounding for fiber-reinforced parts and HyMET for metal molding address the automotive industry’s vehicle lightweighting efforts. Husky also has developed innovative systems, such as Quadloc Tandem Index (QTI), currently the most complete solution for glazing applications, for glazing and overmolding of large multi-material parts. Husky’s Detroit Technical Center (DTC) serves as a development center for many of these technologies. The DTC is also home to a dedicated team of automotive hot runner designers. “Husky’s Detroit Technical Center is a hub for automotive companies to develop their ideas,” Sieradzki said. “And with a worldwide network of facilities, including Europe and Asia, we are truly a global partner. For example, our Technical Center in Luxembourg is hosting an automotive forum this week, featuring a great lineup of new technologies and processes for the automotive industry. And our Shanghai Technical Center continues to make inroads in large-tonnage molding for China’s burgeoning automotive industry. Our focus, whether it’s Detroit, Dudelange or Shanghai, is on working with customers to reduce parts costs, while also addressing environmental concerns by decreasing overall vehicle weight.” Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., with manufacturing facilities located
in Canada, the United States, Luxembourg and China, is a global supplier
of injection molding equipment and services to the plastics industry.
