Innovative Detection Security System Unveiled

Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx News)--Military and security system experts view newly developed luminescence indicator that helps to identify small-scale terrain anomalies.

On a testing ground belonging to Rheinmetall AG in Unterlüß in the Südheide nature park, LANXESS Deutschland GmbH had the opportunity to present its newly developed system for making terrain anomalies visible.. The Rheinmetall "Protective Shield" concept presented is designed to protect military camps in operation as well as civilian objects.

The event gave interested parties the opportunity to attend static and dynamic presentations as well as lectures. Military and security experts from Germany and abroad were able to see the performance of the system for themselves within the context of live demonstrations.

For many security experts, international terrorism is THE challenge of the new century, since civilian constructions that are difficult to keep under surveillance, such as railroad tracks or supply pipelines, are increasingly becoming targets for fanatical terrorists.

In a complex surface monitoring system, a newly developed luminescence indicator helps to identify small-scale terrain anomalies from the air in a quick, effective and reliable manner. The unanimous opinion of the experts: "A system with a future and unknown possibilities in civilian and military deployment."

The weather resistant chemical from LANXESS, when exposed to a pulsed laser, shows a luminescence that can reliably be detected.

The weather resistant chemical is sprayed on to an area to be monitored.. Under normal conditions, this substance is invisible to the human eye in prepared areas. However, when exposed to a pulsed laser, it shows a luminescence that can reliably be detected. As a result of this, areas of land that have been manipulated after being marked can be detected with this special lighting due to the luminescence-free spots that appear as a result of accidental rearrangement of stones or movement of earth material.

Larger areas of terrain can also be secured in an uncomplicated and above all cost-effective manner with this spraying process. Monitoring the protected area is equally cost-effective, and no less efficient. This is done from a helicopter with the aid of specially developed, fully automatic, image processing software - day and night. This self-learning software compares real-time images of the area that is currently being flown over with recorded images of it when it was freshly-sprayed and, even from a height of some 100 meters, is able to identify changes in territory the size of a postcard. In the event that a disturbance in the territory is registered during a regular monitoring flight, this can then be investigated in a targeted way by trained personnel. Error prone inspections are therefore a thing of the past. Railroad construction work or animal tracks are of course automatically classified as unproblematic by the software.

It goes without saying that the weather-resistant chemical passes extensive ecotoxicological tests. The new surface monitoring system has already proved its technical readiness for use in tests and large-scale experiments. The results show that the new system not only significantly increases the security of railroad and pipeline routes, but also that of power stations and airports. Inspections of railroad tracks due to a bomb threat, for instance, are expensive, prone to error and even dangerous, and at best only ensure safety until the next threat is issued. In contrast to this, the new surface monitoring system enables manipulated areas to be identified immediately.

LANXESS is a leading chemicals group with production sites and agencies all over the world: a global player in the fields of chemicals, plastics and rubber.
