2006-12-14 News Release
Textile processing chemicals unit sold North American textile processing chemicals business will not close, but has been sold to a specialist in textile and speciality chemicals in Georgia.
The textile processing chemicals business in North America of LANXESS,
has been sold to US StarChem that will take over the sites at Wellford,
South Carolina, USA and Montreal, Canada.
Pretreatment products from LANXESS are used to prepare textiles for dyeing and fluorescent whitening (optical brightening). Our range comprises of wetting, scouring, chelating and desizing agents. Bleaching stabilizers give textiles the desired hydrophilicity while fluorescent whiteners ensure the desired degree of whiteness. TPC's product examples include flame-retardant clothing for firefighters, special textiles for soundproofing in cars and textiles with integrated microcapsules filled with fragrances. LANXESS announced the divestment of all TPC activities outside North America at the start of November. The original plan was to close the site at Wellford, U.S.A. "I am delighted that we can now offer employees new prospects," said Axel C. Heitmann, Chairman of LANXESS’s Management Board. The TPC business unit has around 380 employees worldwide and reports
sales of EUR 150 million.
