LANXESS increases prices for toluene-based basic chemicals The Basic Chemicals business unit of LANXESS to immediately raise prices worldwide for chlorotoluenes, cresols and the antioxidants Vulkanox BHT and Vulkanox BKF.
Depending on the product group, the price per metric ton will rise by between 5 and 15 percent as a function of the proportion of toluene used. The reason for the price rises is a drastic increase in the cost of the raw material toluene and raised energy costs. LANXESS is one of the leading companies in the manufacture and marketing of chlorotoluene, cresols, butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) and 2,2-methylene-bis-(4-methyl-6-tert.-butyl-phenol) (BKF). These basic chemicals cover a very wide range of applications: Chlorotoluenes (o- and p-chlorotoluene) are primarily used to produce agrochemicals, but are also used in pigment and optical brightener manufacture. Cresols (o-cresol, m-cresol and m/p-cresol) on the other hand are widely used in the manufacture of vitamin E, resins, flame retardants and agrochemicals. The antioxidant Vulkanox® BHT acts as a stabilizer in animal feed, drugs and foodstuffs, plastics, rubber and products for the cosmetic industry. Vulkanox® BKF is an antioxidant used primarily in the rubber and latex industry. The Basic Chemicals business unit belongs to the Chemical Intermediates
