Lanxess Rubber Chemicals new bonding agent eases processability The new Cohedur bonding agent, part of the wide portfolio of high-quality specialty additives from Lanxess Rubber Chemicals business unit, is a big plus.
The latest product is the new bonding agent Cohedur* VP RUC 9206 for rubber-steel cord or rubber-textile composites. Its big plus: Cohedur RUC 9206 mixes better and displays a much lower sublimation tendency than resorcin as a bonding agent constituent. The rubber technology properties in an RFS system (resorcin-formaldehyde donor-silica) are therefore comparable with those of resorcin. The anti-reversion agent Vulcuren® KA 9188, which has been on the market for two years now, is a bi-functional crosslinker for diene rubbers, such as NR, IR, BR and SBR. Accelerated sulfur vulcanization in the presence of Vulcuren® KA 9188 leads to the formation of thermodynamically stable, flexible hybrid network points. The vulcanized rubbers formed by Vulcuren® KA 9188 display a marked resistance to reversion and aging. The benefits for the tire industry include less hardening of the tread due to aging and therefore more constant grip properties in wet and dry conditions throughout the entire service life of the tire. In addition to being established as a crosslinker, Vulcuren® can also be applied as a scorch-proof secondary accelerator. Vulkazon* AFD has already been established on the market for 40 years
and, as such, is something of a classic. Both it and the somewhat newer
Vulkazon AFS belong to the class of non-discoloring antiozonants for vulcanized
diene rubbers. Vulkazon AFS and AFD do not discolor on contact and are
used in white and colored rubber items from bike tires to profiles. However,
even in products filled with carbon black where a black surface is important,
Vulkazon AFS or AFD have established themselves as problem-solvers. The
method of action of both products is based on reactive double bonds, which
prefer to react with ozone before the ozone destroys the polymer chain.
In the right formulation, the effectiveness of Vulkazon AFS and AFD as
antiozonants is comparable to that of the discoloring phenylene diamines. * Cohedur and Vulkazon are regsitered trademarks of Lanxess. Read a recent press release from Lanxess about - 'The Basic Chemicals business unit of LANXESS to immediately raise prices worldwide for chlorotoluenes, cresols and the antioxidants Vulkanox BHT and Vulkanox BKF.'
