Advances in Medical Fabrics
Manufacturing News Center
MIAMI, Fla -- Jobwerx News -- Polymer Group, Inc. introduced
its new MediSoft fabrics that combine softness and barrier properties
to give healthcare workers greater comfort while maintaining a high
level of protection.
The new MediSoft fabrics exhibit a 50 percent increase in softness
over standard spunmelt fabrics used in medical applications, according
to the company's internal test results. The new fabrics also exceed
industry standards for protection against fluids for the class of applications
for which they are targeted.
"The improved softness of MediSoft fabrics provides the high barrier
protection of spunmelt combined with the softness, drapability and breathability
the industry demands," said James L. Schaeffer, PGI's chief executive
officer.
Both comfort and protection are key concerns for healthcare workers
globally. With today's concerns surrounding the potential of cross infections
the medical industry has been moving toward fabrics with higher fluid
barriers achieved through the spunmelt process to protect healthcare
workers. But garments made from these fabrics can be stiff and uncomfortable,
particularly after extended use.
"MediSoft fabrics give PGI the ability to offer the comfort and
convenience of spunlace fabrics with the higher protection and cost
advantages of spunmelt technology," said Schaeffer.
