Consumer packaging unit to supply free plastics bags at US airports Consumer packaging supplier Pactiv to provide up to ten million one quart plastics storage bags to keep travelers moving through airport security checkpoints during holiday season.
Pactiv Corporation (NYSE: PTV), Lake Forest, Ill., USA, maker of Hefty* packaging brand products, announced that by year’s end, it will have provided a total of 10 million Hefty OneZip* one-quart plastics slider bags to airports located across the United States to help keep travelers moving through security checkpoints and reduce wait times – especially during periods of heavy passenger volume typical of the holiday travel season. Hefty OneZip quart-size plastics slider bags will be offered free at participating airports, while supplies last, to passengers who need them to comply with U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 3-1-1 carry-on guidelines for air travel. The 3-1-1 initiative allows packaging for liquid or gel toiletries, three ounces or less in volume (3), to be stored comfortably inside a one-quart size, clear plastics, zip-top bag (1), and one bag per passenger (1). “The overwhelming response we have received from airport managers confirms that the Hefty OneZip bag program has truly ‘made a difference’ for both travelers and U.S. airports,” said John Schwab, senior vice president & general manager, Hefty Consumer Products. “By the end of this year, this program will have touched the lives of millions of travelers, enabling us to help ease the stresses of air travel.”
According to Schwab, three million Hefty OneZip quart-size slider storage bags are currently in the process of being shipped to airports across the country that have requested them for on-site distribution. These shipments will re-supply many airports that have participated in Pactiv’s Hefty OneZip bag program over the past 15 months. Distribution to airports will continue throughout the holiday season while supplies last. Airports participating in the plastics slider bag program include: Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL (O’Hare and Midway); Columbus, OH; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Dallas-Fort Worth, TX; Honolulu, HI; Houston, TX; Kansas City, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; New York, NY (JFK and LaGuardia); Newark, NJ; Phoenix, AZ; Pittsburgh, PA; Portland, OR; Raleigh-Durham, NC; San Diego, CA; San Antonio, TX; Seattle, WA; St. Louis, MO; plus many more. Hefty OneZipTravel bags are available in a 7-count, flat travel pack
that can be easily stored in an outside pocket of a carry-on bag. These
packs can be found in the “travel and trial” aisles at select
mass merchants and drug stores across the United States. The quart-size
food storage and freezer packaging bags also meet TSA guidelines and have
a variety of uses for storing and organizing in the home.
All bags feature an easy-to-use slider that closes the bag in one easy
step, without pinching, pressing or lining up the tracks. Simply slide
the bag closed. Hefty OneZip bags have been awarded an Ease-of-Use Commendation
from the Arthritis Foundation and are available at mass merchandisers
and grocery stores nationwide.
