Philips Medical Systems, a division of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG; AEX; PHI), today announced the signing of an agreement with Kaiser Permanente to supply advanced ultrasound systems, data quantification software, enterprise-wide PACS (picture archiving and communication systems) and equipment service for Kaiser Permanente’s more than 450 medical centers and offices in the United States.

The agreement covers purchase of iU22, HD11 and HD3 ultrasound systems; Philips iSite information management systems for 2D and volumetric image review; QLAB quantification software and Philips CUSTOMerCARE service. These advanced technologies and services will help Kaiser Permanente provide patients faster, more efficient exams, improved diagnostic capabilities and state-of-the art 2D and 3D ultrasound imaging.

“This partnership with Kaiser Permanente demonstrates our shared vision for healthcare systems that improve workflow, control costs and provide patients with the best care possible,” said Barbara Franciose, CEO, ultrasound and monitoring for Philips Medical Systems.

The agreement provides a comprehensive ultrasound radiology solution for Kaiser Permanente’s 30 medical centers and 431 medical offices serving more than 8.5 million enrolled members in nine states and the District of Columbia. Kaiser Permanente currently uses the Philips iSite (formerly Stentor) PACS solution across its network. The two companies will collaborate on further advanced capabilities that will allow the sharing, manipulation, quantification and storage of full-volume 3D images.

“We are looking forward to improving our workflow and diagnostic capabilities while continuing to provide our patients the first class healthcare they have come to expect,” said John Rego, M.D., chairman of the ultrasound radiology panel for Kaiser Permanente.

The first systems from Philips Medical Systems were delivered to Kaiser Permanente in April 2006.
