Important Message About
Your Online Security
Manufacturing News Center
July 30, 2004 -- SEATTLE, Wash., (USA) -- Jobwerx News
-- Avoid becoming a victim of email phishing and protect your online
security.
Fraudulent scams called phishing involve
an email being sent with the intent of capturing the recipients' personal
information such as social security numbers, user identification numbers,
and passwords. The emails appear to be coming from a legitimate company
such as a bank, credit card company or Internet Service Provider. Recently,
the Federal Trade Commission has warned consumers about fraudulent emails,
pop-up advertisements, and phony websites that attempt to trick people
into providing confidential personal information.
Suggestions to Increase Your Information Security Online
- Always close your browser or select Exit after using a secured
site such as Online Banking & Investing
- Keep your password secret and make sure that no one is watching
as you enter it
- Make passwords as insignificant as possible - don't use things such
as birthdays or phone numbers
- Never use the word "PASSWORD" as your password
- Make your login ID and password different
- Change your password immediately if you believe that someone else
may know it, and never write your password down
- Anti-virus software is your computer's best defense against viruses
and worms. Install anti-virus software on your computer and regularly
scan your computer to make sure it is free from viruses. Some viruses
may not affect your computer's performance, but could allow unauthorized
access to your system. Update your anti-virus software on a regular
basis.
- Don't access the Internet without an updated firewall enabled, especially
when using DSL or a cable modem
- Never download information from the Internet unless you are dealing
with a reputable company
- On secure sites, look for the icon of a lock or a key in the lower
left or right corner of the screen — NEVER enter personal, private
or financial data onto a web page that does not have the lock displayed
- Check your browser for detailed security information, normally available
in the Help file
The continued page will help you to avoid becoming a victim of email
phishing and scams of this type. Look over these suggestions and protect
your personal information.
