Cambridge, UK -- Plastic Logic, a leading developer of plastic electronics, announced its participation in PolyApply – an EU-funded Integrated Project aiming at a new generation of low-cost devices which integrate a range of electronic capabilities, including computation, sensing, and information storage with RFID contactless communication technologies.

The €24Mn project involves 20 partners, with 50% of the funding coming from the EU. Partners include leading plastic electronics innovators such as Plastic Logic, global semiconductor manufacturers and potential customers of the technology, as well as leading research institutes and universities. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) play key roles in these Framework 6 projects, with a target of 15% participation.

PolyApply will enable a new generation of ‘things that think’, interact with their environment, and communicate with people. This technology will be incorporated into many products, including packaging of consumer goods. According to the PolyApply Board, the cost of silicon technology is a fundamental stumbling block if this technology is to be truly applicable everywhere and anywhere.
