Saint-Gobain Performance
Plastics Solutions for Home Appliances
Seattle, WA, USA -- (Jobwerx News) -- Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics
adds innovative products to its range, products made to improve the performance
and life of your home appliances.
Polymers for Home Appliances
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics is leading the way in advanced-technology
polymer products for the most demanding industrial applications. They
make products ranging from fluid handling hose and tube, machined and
molded fluoropolymers, and medical-grade silicones; to release liners,
PTFE coated fabrics and tapes, membranes, foam seals, gaskets and bonding
tapes; and precision bearings, spring energized seals, radomes, and composites
for aerospace.
Rulon 488* and Rulon* are materials used in plain bearings designed for
clothes dryer drums. The latter use increasingly wear-resistant coatings
to ensure a longer life for dryers, but they are also very abrasive. Rulon
488 minimizes friction thanks to its high performance properties. It is
perfectly suited to dry environments and it increases the drum’s life.
"Rulon" is a proprietary, homogeneous material mostly made of PTFE based
resins, engineered and developed with specific custom applications in
mind. Rulon F, for its part, was specifically developed to limit extraneous
noise generated by the drum rubbing on the bearings and thus provides
very quiet equipment. It is a green polymer-filled material with excellent
anti-abrasion characteristics. Rulon F exhibits excellent wear resistance,
especially in dry conditions. This material suitably slides against a
wide range of mating surfaces but is not recommended for contact with
strong bases or steam.
The Meldin Family of resins actually consists of five (5) groups of resins:
Two (2) of which are Engineered Thermoplastics and Three (3) of which
are Thermosetting Polyimides.
Meldin 1357* and Meldin 5055* are domestic use materials, used more specifically
for dishwasher waste disposal units and mixer motors. They are resistant
to wear and reduce to a considerable degree the friction coefficient as
well as the noise levels, thus providing quiet operation.
Features / Benefits:
- Eliminates corrosive degradation of metallic bearing
- Provides a low coefficient of friction
- Cost effective-parts are injection molded
- Noise-reducing for more quiet, in-home operation
Meldin Engineered Thermoplastics offer the market a line of injection
moldable high-temperature polymers with low wear and high strength.
In addition to the Rulon & Meldin materials, the Polymer Products (PP)
division offers design and process expertise for other standard polymers
of the market, such as:
• Virgin and standard filled PTFE, (machining, molding, stamping, hot
forming etc…) for finished parts and basic shapes
• Injection moldable thermoplastics for finished parts: PEEK (filled,
unfilled), filled PPS, PA (filled, unfilled), PP, etc.
• Fluoropolymers for finished parts and basic shapes as: PFA, FEP
• Nylon
* Rulon and Meldin are registered trademarks of Saint-Gobain
From their seven manufacturing locations based in USA, Europe and Asia,
Saint-Gobain offers a long experience of polymer material processing,
and support to define, technically and economically, the most adequate
manufacturing process.
