Ticona Polymers new
investments in Asia
Ticona Engineering Polymers to invest in production and development facilities
in Asia with resources for customers and application development.
Ticona, the engineering polymers business of Celanese Corporation, Dallas,
Texas, announces that it intends to make a series of new investments in
Asia over the next several years. These investments include world-scale
monomer, polymer and compounding production for products currently branded
as Vectra* liquid crystal polymer and Celcon*/Hostaform* polyoxymethylene
(POM) products, as well as technical development facilities and resources
focused on customer and application development.

These new investments support Ticona’s Asia growth strategy, which
also includes the company’s previously announced plans to construct
production facilities for GUR* ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene
and Celstran* long fiber reinforced thermoplastics in China. These investments
are not associated with the company’s relocation of its Kelsterbach,
Germany, facility.
“This series of investments will strengthen Ticona's global supply
and service capabilities beyond our existing joint ventures and current
operations,” said Lyndon Cole, President of Ticona. “Asia
represents significant growth opportunities for Ticona and the customers
we serve. Our strategy for new local manufacturing, technical and commercial
resources signals our commitment to the region and seeks to capitalize
on strong economic growth and increased demand for our key products.”
The Ticona investments are part of Celanese’s overall Asia growth
strategy and commitment to expansion in the region to serve its global
customer base. Celanese ,
a global leader in the chemicals industry, with products manufactured
in North America, Europe and Asia, previously announced the relocation
of strategic management of its Acetyls business from Dallas to Shanghai,
China, and appointed the head of Acetyls, John O’Dwyer, to also
serve as president of Celanese Asia.

and owned by Ticona and its affiliates.
