Ticona Technical Polymers JV PPS plant expansion

The 65 million USD expansion of the Fortron PPS resin manufacturing plant in the US by JV partners Ticona Engineering Polymers and Kureha passes milestone.

 

The Fortron Industries LLC PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) resin manufacturing & compound sales plant, located in Wilmington, North Carolina USA, is on schedule and is to be completed in the third quarter of 2007.

The expansion will double the plant's Fortron* PPS capacity to 15,000 metric tons per year.

The expanded plant will be the world’s largest PPS facility and will address bringing the supply of this high-performance polymer into balance with the growing global demand for it in the electrical, electronics, automotive, aerospace, filtration and other industrial and consumer industries. Fortron Industries LLC is a joint venture of Ticona Engineering Polymers and Kureha Corporation.

Joint venture partner Kureha Corporation's Iwaki Factory, located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, is the manufacturing base for many of Kureha's products, and is one of the largest integrated chemical plants in Japan. An enormous site, it produces a wide variety of products such as plastics, chemicals, carbon products and pharmaceuticals. One of the major products produced by Kureha Corporation at the site is polyvinylidene chloride resin, the raw material for food packaging materials.

Ticona, an important business of Celanese Corporation, is a solutions-driven company that uses advanced polymer technology to produce high performance plastic materials that are used in a wide spectrum of applications - from children's toys to industrial gears, from tiny optical components to large automotive body parts.

Ticona's materials are world leaders in acetal polymers, liquid crystal polymers, long fiber reinforced thermoplastics, and ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene.
