Zimmer polymer plant contract for engineering plastics

Zimmer AG receives contract to supply a polymer plant in China for PBT that will be processed to obtain granulate for engineering plastics.

The Frankfurt based Zimmer AG, a company of the GEA group, received from Blue Star New Chemical Materials Company, Ltd. a contract to supply a polyester polycondensation plant producing polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). The plant will be built in Nantong and is due to go on-stream in 3rd quarter 2007. With this project Zimmer underlines its leading position in the market for PBT plants.

The GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft is headquartered in Bochum, Germany. As an engineering group it is acting worldwide. GEA stands for Global Engineering Alliance. The company focuses on specialty mechanical engineering, especially process engineering and equipment, and plant engineering. Within the GEA Group AG Zimmer represents the strategic business unit polymers and synthetic fibers assigned to the Plant Engineering segment.

Blue Star New Chemical Material, Ltd. group's principal activities are the research, production and sale of chemical materials. The PBT series are the PBT resin, reinforced modified PBT resin and other modified engineering plastics.

Based on Zimmer's proven continuous low-pressure process, the PBT plant for Blue Star New Chemical Materials Company, is designed to produce 200 tons polymer per day, using as raw materials terephthalic acid (PTA) and 1.4 butanediol. The polymer will be processed to obtain granulate for engineering plastics. Zimmer will provide technology and equipment for the plant as well as supervision of construction and start-up.

PBT is used especially in the automotive and electronic industry.
