Quality Systems
Quality
Quality
is how well a product or service satisfies the needs of the customer.
This includes ALL aspects of the needs of the customer such as specifications,
delivery method or date, price, etc. Basically everything.
Quality Assurance
This
is similar to quality control, but has more to do with the process than
the product. These are the systems that can demonstrate that the organization
can meet the specifications and requirements of the customer. They also
allow the management of the organization to know that the customer's requirements
are being met.
Description of Quality Systems
ISO
The acronym-like term "ISO" stands for The International Organization
for Standardization, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Founded in 1947 for
the purpose of advancing standardization around the world, this non-governmental
organization is now comprised of over 130 member countries. Each country
is represented by its respective national standards body and participates
in developing standards to facilitate trade of goods and services in the
global marketplace. The standards developed apply not only to economic
related activities but also cover the related technology and science involved
in these pursuits.
Often thought to be an acronym, the term "ISO" is actually derived from
the Greek word "isos" which means "equal" or "equivalent." From this word
comes the modern prefix "iso-" which occurs in words such as "isotonic"
and "isogonic" each having the concept of equivalency in its definition.
The term "ISO" was chosen because of its close approximation to an acronym
of The International Organization for Standardization and because it would
avoid the varying acronyms that would result due to translations of the
name into different languages around the world. In other words, a standard
name for the organization that defines standards.
QS-9000 Quality System Requirements have been developed by US-based
Chrysler, Ford and General Motors with the purpose to define their fundamental
quality system expectations. Revisions of European affiliates have been
included in order to facilitate the implementation of QS-9000 in Europe.
QS-9000 requirements apply to suppliers of production materials, production
or service parts as well as heat treating, painting, plating and other
finishing services.
